Fourth Year Latin
The Fourth Year Latin Course is the second year of the two year Standard Grade Latin Course.
It covers the three elements of
- Interpretation
- Translation
- Investigation
The materials necessary for this course are:
- Prescribed Text: supplied by Scottish Examination Board
- "Ecce Romani" IV, plus further materials for Translation prepared by the teacher according to the Board's Format. (These are in the Department).
- Access by the pupils to original and secondary sources, both written and non-written, e.g. slides, films etc. Especially important is the need for a wide range of primary sources in translation. (For which see Appendix).
The rationale, aims and structure of the above course are set out in detail in the Scottish Examination Board's "Revised Arrangements for Standard Grade Latin" of 1987, to which referral should be made, for further explanation.
