Raising Attainment
Raising the attainment of S1/2 pupils at Queen Anne High School.
Over the last few years, the English Department has been actively working towards raising the attainment of our pupils. The national figures published by Fife Council show that the number of our pupils achieving level 'E' at the end of S2 has increased steadily:
| 2002-03 | 2003-04 | 2004-05 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 57% | 78% | 65% |
| Writing | 45% | 72% | 65% |
Raising attainment in the English Department has been a focus in every session to provide our pupils with a positive learning experience and one in which they can achieve. It is equally important that course work provides a solid foundation on which pupils are prepared for the next stage of their education and development and of course, the world of further education and/or work.
A variety of measures have been employed by the English Department in order to raise the attainment of our pupils. The use of formative assessment, rigorous quality assurance and efforts made to increase pupil application and behaviour prove invaluable tools in raising attainment. At the heart of this, of course, is effective teaching and learning, something which we strive for in the Department.
