Physics Department

The Physics department has five laboratories on the ground floor and one laboratory on the first floor of the Science block.

Each Physics teacher has his or her own laboratory and has the responsibility for the learning environment within. The department has a tutorial room on the first floor.

The Physics department has an equipment store on the ground floor. The technicians' bases are located on the first and second floors of the Science block.

Resources

The department is equipped to allow pupils to carry out the required practical work for S2 5-14, S-Grade, Access, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher Physics.

IT Resources

Each laboratory is equipped with at least one computer and a printer. Each laboratory has a Pasco interface connected to allow data capture for a variety of experiments using a range of Pasco sensors. There is also access to " classroom in a box" which is a set of 16 laptops which allow pupils access to departmental software and the internet.

There is one Promethean interactive board and two data projectors with associated laptops. This allows the use of commercial software and teacher produced software to be used with a class. The department has licences for Virtual Physics software and Crocodile Physics. These are used for whole class lessons or for individual pupil work.

The department has already placed materials for pupil use onto the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) site which students can access at home.
