Eco Schools at Queen Anne High School

Eco Schools is an international programme to encourage whole school action for the environment. Queen Anne High School is registered with Eco Schools. Our aim is to run the school in a way that respects and enhances the environment. Click on the following link to take you to the Eco Schools Scotland website www.ecoschoolsscotland.org

What have we already done?

  • Set up an Eco Committee of staff and pupils.
  • Carried out an environmental review in and around the school.
  • Formed an Action Plan.
  • Involved everyone.
  • Agreed our Eco Code and litter code.
  • Used PSE lessons as a forum to start a litter campaign.
  • Organised a litter pick morning in and around the school grounds.
  • Made links with our partner school in The Gambia.
  • Set up an EcoRoom on our VLE.

Litter is a problem:

  • in corridors.
  • house areas.
  • in the grounds.
  • in the local community.

Litter:

  • is anti-social
  • is a dangerous hazard
  • is ugly, smelly and can encourage vermin
  • can be harmful to birds and wildlife

Queen Anne High School fills 8 large skips of waste each week with only 25% of this recycled. We aim to increase the amount that is recycled.

  • We have issued all pupils with a copy of the litter code and we expect ALL pupils to follow it.
  • We ask all pupils and staff to use the class-recycling box for PAPER and CARD.

Pupils should dispose of recyclable plastic bottles in the new red bin in the dining hall. We have started a new house area star rating system called Fame and Shame. Stars are awarded to the tidiest house area.

Ready, Aim, Recycle…

Make it happen in a bin near you.
