Homework Policy

Due to the heavy demands of marking within the subject, the main emphasis on homework in core RE is concentrated in S1 and S2. It is the belief of the department that homework in RE enhances the subject and gives pupils the opportunity for creative work, which is not always possible in a 53-minute period.

S1 & S2 requirements

  • There will be four homework assignments in S1, and three in S2, related to topics studied.
  • Materials are usually kept in the classroom but will be taken home twice in the year for parental comments on a feedback form.
  • Homework will also be given as:-
  • Revision for assessments
  • Catching up on work missed
  • Making up for lack of effort during the period

S3 & S4 requirements

  • In S3 & S4 homework is not given on a regular basis as it is recognised that pupils need to give a higher priority to homework for their certificate subjects and it has been found that, apart from the very good pupils, very few were producing worthwhile work.
  • However, occasionally pupils will be asked to do homework in the form of a revision for a test or, at their request, completing an assessment exercise at home.
  • When S4 pupils are completing a unit from Higher Still Intermediate 1/2, then homework will need to be given as preparation for the NAB assessment.

Higher Still requirements

  • Students will be expected to do homework on a regular basis whether the teacher allocates it or not. They will need to regularly go over their materials, maybe rewriting notes or making further comments.
  • Essays (not NAB's) will be given as homework and should be handed in promptly.
  • Preparation will be necessary in relation to NAB assessments and re-assessments.
  • Extensive home study will be necessary in relation to preparations for the Extended Essay.
