Computing Studies
The Computing Studies department have been involved in many new developments during this session with new courses that we have just started or will be starting next session.
Currently, S3 classes are being introduced to Visual BASIC as the programming language that we will now use in the Standard Grade course. Next session all courses that involve programming will use Visual BASIC to create programs.
The department offers progression through Computing courses available from Standard Grade and Access 3 through Intermediate 1 & 2 to Higher and Advanced Higher.
In addition to the courses covered in class we have been involved in Space School again this session, with two S5 pupils taking part in a set of tasks created by NASA. Both candidates have been able to secure places on the Strathclyde University Summer School, where they spend a week taking part in lab tasks, excursions to IT and electronics companies and discussions with NASA personnel.
Several members from S4 - S6 were also involved in the e-Teams 2004 competition held in the Rothes Halls. QAHS managed 3rd place within Fife after taking part in a series of tasks throughout the day, culminating in the group performing on stage to deliver a sales pitch for a Privatised Oxygen supply!
The lunchtime clubs for Computing continue to be well attended, with S3-S6 using Computing 1 on Wednesdays and S1-S2 using Computing 1 on Thursdays.
Any pupil that wishes to work at lunchtime on their folio materials for the SQA exams can arrange to do this with their teacher.
