Craft, Design & Technology
The CDT department provides pupils with a varied and engaging range of subjects that both challenge and stimulate.
In S1 the pupils work on a series of design and make exercises incorporating wood and metal work that introduce them to new skills and develop many that they had begun in primary. They are also introduced to electronic circuits and to a variety of graphics skills and techniques. These skills are further developed in S2 where they take on more challenging design tasks based on Enterprise, then are introduced to using IT to simulate control systems and use drawing equipment to develop their abilities with graphic techniques.
Having six full time, and dedicated, members of staff in the department has meant that in the senior school the department is able to offer the following courses;
- Standard Grade Craft and Design, Graphic Communication, and Technological Studies
- Intermediate Graphic Communication, Product Design and Practical Craft Skills
- Higher Graphic Communication, Product Design, Technological Studies
- Advanced Higher Graphic Communication, Technological Studies
The department is well resourced with a series of purpose-built rooms for craft, graphics, design, technology, and IT. Each room is fully kitted out with excellent resources and gives the opportunity for the pupils to stretch their ability.
