Promoting Positive Discipline

A high standard of behaviour is expected of all Queen Anne High School pupils. Our discipline policy has three main threads: The Classroom Code, Classroom Code Consequences and Rewards.

The Classroom Code requires that pupils:

  • Treat others, their work and their property with respect
  • Arrive on time for each class with the appropriate books and equipment
  • Enter classes quietly, sit down and wait for instructions from the teacher
  • Listen to and follow instructions the first time given
  • Raise a hand and wait to be asked before speaking
  • Not to eat, drink or chew in class
  • Pack up and leave quietly when told to by the teacher.

The Classroom Code Consequences are enforced after a pupil has been given fair warning if their behaviour fails to meet our expectations:

  • Isolated in the class
  • Given a punishment exercise from the class teacher
  • Removed from the class
  • Referred to the Principal Teacher who will apply strict departmental sanctions
  • Referred to an appropriate member of the Senior Management Team

The Rewards include:

  • Verbal praise from the class teacher
  • Written comments of a favourable nature in jotter/homework planner
  • Verbal praise from the Principal Teacher
  • Positive referral from the classroom teacher
  • Certificate of achievement
  • Certificate of distinction
  • A reference when the pupil leaves school, which reflects the quality of effort and achievement.

In short, we believe and emphasise that it is better to behave.
